Interesting, wonder if the info takes any closer to finding a way to hack the hardware and get these machines working again.
I wonder if anyone in the group is interested in putting in some cash to fund instructing a geek/hacker to see if they can override the hardware?

I was wondering If the Delta_e_live.config is the file it looks for to keep the E3 activated, its got to be looking for something every time it sends or receives email to keep it alive.. ?

Delta_e_live could stand for Delta Emailer Live, why have the name live in its name, so that could be the file that keeps in on and that file after 2 or 3 months gets deleted or it tells the Emailer how long to keep a live for and then the Emailer deactivates itself, maybe that's why if you copy the setup from a Emailer with the config change on to another that's deactivated(not working) it don't activate it because it only copies the setup and not that file. That file looks important because it has a its own IP address so the Emailer can download it. 212.225.36.174/delta_e_live.config and it has a version number - config_a version: 0. Just some idea.. 😊 Spanner..

Just some idea.. 😊 I also wanted to reply to this thread simply to confirm that there's at least one other person out here who's still interested in these things (I believe I have either 4 or 5 in total, never connected to a phone line, and I also have a serial connector cable (somewhere), although it's still RS232, not USB (but I think that can't be hard to change)). Happy to help out further if I can make the time for it Antony.

Enough time has passed that bruteforcing the required key is probably feasible..
I think the list has the details, somewhere.
You need to send a packet that hashes to a specific value to enable any of the fun pbl functionality.
good luck.

I seem to remember a posting along the lines of "this has got close enough that we're not going to give more details, because we don't want to annoy Amstrad, but anyone with enough clue might be able to take it from here".
I don't believe the actual steps needed were ever publicly posted (but I'd be happy to be pointed at a correction if I'm wrong).

Is that "specific value" generic, or device-specific?
Antony.

Mr Lawson, iirc, mentioned the source data for the hash was a verse from the bible, which should collapse the keyspace quite a bit. You need to send a packet that hashes to a specific value to enable any of the fun pbl functionality. Is that "specific value" generic, or device-specific? Antony. bootloader specific, so will work for any 5.1 version. O. I should dig out whatever old E3 info I have stashed away somewhere and refresh my memory.
